For patients with Stage ?colorectal cancer, primary site resection improves survival andrelieves symptoms of bleeding and obstruction by the primary lesion. Laparoscopic surgery is thought to be useful for Stage ? colorectal cancer because of its low aggressiveness andthe short recovery time. We examinedthe usefulness of laparoscopic resection of primary lesions for Stage ? colon cancer patients. Forty-one cases of Stage ? colorectal cancer treatedby resection of the primary lesion were investigated, andwe comparedthe group of patients with laparoscopic surgery(LAC)to the group of patients with open laparotomy(OP). The LAC Group was superior to the OP Group from the viewpoint of bloodloss, days of hospitalization, and length of time from operation to start of chemotherapy. For Stage ? colorectal cancer, laparoscopic resection of the primary lesion is thought to be a useful methodto reduce the invasiveness of treatment.
